Iteon Robin Technology Named 2004 SESAMES Award Winner

Robin makes it possible to deploy new smart card based loyalty programs without the need to update the terminals.

Levallois-Perret, France – November 2, 2004 – The Cartes exhibition jury, made up of international experts in the smart card market, presented Iteon with the 2004 SESAMES Innovation Award for the Best Customer Loyalty Application. The SESAMES Awards reward the best innovations in the smart card industry.

An important brake on mass deployment of smart card based loyalty programs is the complexity of updating terminals. For each new application, it is mandatory to download specific software to each terminal, which is a costly not to say impossible process.

Thanks to Robin Technology, the smart card itself contains the application software that will allow a terminal to work with it. Because the card itself contains the software, it will work on any terminal. This removes the problem of deploying applications on terminals.

Because the protocol is standardized, the same application software on the card will work on any terminal, whatever its manufacturer, its model and its software release without the need for any specific software. Because the protocol is adaptative, it will work on devices as much different as a point of sale terminal, an ATM, a computer or a personal reader. Robin dynamically adapts the application to the characteristics of the terminal it is working with.

Robin Technology works with existing cards and terminals.

"Being awarded a SESAMES Innovation Award among some 126 candidates is a tremendous honor" said Jerome Ajdenbaum, Director at Iteon. "Iteon now looks forward to sharing this innovation with the whole industry and commits to working in partnership with card and terminal manufacturers in order to allow them to provide innovating and highly profitable products."

The development of Robin Technology has been made possible thanks to the active support of the French Agency for Innovation (ANVAR)
